Simparica Trio®
Simparica Trio® Is a monthly chewable tablet for dogs that targets a wide array of common parasites that can harm our dogs. Like other heartworm prevention products, it is critical to treat the pet monthly all year round due to Florida’s ever present parasite threats.
Just One Dose of Monthly Simparica Trio:
Prevents heartworm disease
Kills fleas before they can lay eggs
Treats and prevents flea infestations
Treats and controls roundworms and hookworms
Kills 5 species of ticks
FDA-approved to prevent infections that can cause Lyme disease by directly killing deer ticks.
Solensia®
Solensia® is a monoclonal antibody (mAb), which is a highly specific protein targeting molecules involved in disease. It functions like naturally occurring antibodies, and is eliminated via normal protein degradation pathways, with minimal involvement of the liver or kidneys.
Solensia® binds to Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), and its action helps to control pain and limit the release of pro-inflammatory mediators that increase inflammation and can lower neurogenic inflammation also.
These combined actions can reduce the pain caused by osteoarthritis in cats.
Librela®
Librela® (also known as Bedinvetmab) is a monoclonal antibody therapy for dogs, specifically designed for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). It works by targeting and neutralizing nerve growth factor (NGF), which plays a crucial role in the transmission of pain signals associated with osteoarthritis.
Here’s how Bedinvetmab works:
Targeting NGF: Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a protein that plays a key role in the perception of pain. In osteoarthritis, increased levels of NGF contribute to heightened pain sensitivity and inflammation in affected joints. Bedinvetmab specifically targets and binds to NGF, preventing it from interacting with its receptors and thereby reducing pain signaling.
Reducing Pain and Inflammation: By blocking the action of NGF, Bedinvetmab helps to reduce pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. This can lead to improved mobility, increased activity levels, and an overall enhancement in the quality of life for affected dogs.
As is true of most arthritis treatments, Librela® does not treat or cure the arthritis itself but rather reduces the pain and inflammation that it causes.
A cure for arthritis remains elusive.
Librela® represents a novel approach to managing osteoarthritis in dogs and provides an additional treatment option for veterinarians and pet owners. As with any medication, it’s essential to use Librela® under the guidance and supervision of a veterinarian, who can determine if it’s an appropriate treatment option for your dog based on factors such as the dog’s medical history, severity of arthritis symptoms, and overall health status.
It is not indicated for dogs with neurological impairments even if arthritis is also present.
Apoquel®
Apoquel® is an exciting new medication for the treatment of allergy in dogs. It is a much safer alternative to cortisone that can be given long term if needed. Field trials have revealed no significant side effects and excellent control for itching.
While there may be more appropriate choices for extended control in the severely affected dogs with atopy, this is a great option for seasonal allergies in dogs.
Sorry, it’s not approved yet for cats.
NexGard
Nexgard® is a new oral medication that provides monthly flea and tick control for dogs, the first product to protect from both parasites in one flavored chew tab, and it actually tastes good as well as being very effective.
Just don’t forget your monthly heartworm preventive, as heartworms are deadly and are not prevented by this product. You may safely combine it with any of the popular prescription heartworm preventives.
It is made by the manufacturers of Heartgard®.
Galliprant®
Galliprant® is an anti-inflammatory in the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory family (an NSAID), but with a new twist.
Galliprant® interferes and interrupts the inflammatory cycle of arthritis that causes chronic pain at a more targeted point in the cycle than the previous NSAID type drugs. It is terrifically safe and effective and easily dosed to provide rapid and effective pain relief with a lower risk of adverse effects.
In fact, the safety studies were performed with 15 times the normal dose!
Cytopoint®
Cytopoint® is a revolutionary new treatment for Canine Atopy, or allergic skin disease caused by environmental triggers such as grass and tree pollen and house dust mite.
Cytopoint® interferes with the inflammatory cycle, thereby preventing the itch that is the hallmark of allergic dermatitis. It is not a traditional pharmaceutical drug but rather a biologic product – it is a monoclonal antibody that binds at the appropriate receptor to help prevent itching without the use of traditional drugs.
One injection can provide itch relief for 4 to 8 weeks with minimal risk of side effects.
